Property description
Tilleul is the largest of 5 self-catering gites at ‘Le Jardin des Amis’ which have been renovated from a former farm on the edge of the village of Meyrals in the heart of the Perigord Noir.
It is a light and airy property with tiled floors and large windows giving views out over the valley.
The open plan ground floor has a well equipped kitchen with large (5 burner) gas cooker, microwave, dish washer, coffee maker etc. Laundry facilities are available at the rear of the house.
For indoor eating there is a table which extends to seat up to 10, whilst a larges table on the patio will seat the same number for alfresco meals. The living area has a large L-shaped sofa, bed settee, and comfy arm chairs. There is a combined TV/DVD player and a range of books for the use of guests.(Further books/board games/ are housed at the pool bar)
Two good sized double bedrooms are on the first floor and share a bathroom, with bath and shower. The top floor comprises a huge airy bedroom with 4 single beds and a large ensuite shower room. The bedroom has window locks and stairgate to make it a safe room for children whilst still being suitable for teenagers or adults.
A cot and high chair + extra stair gate are also available:please request when booking.
The stone-built house is set on a 7acre site comprising gardens, orchard, woods and wild-flower meadow where guests are free to wander. At the rear of the house is the large (12m x 6m) pool which is kept sparkling and clear through the use of a salt-system (kinder to eyes and skin than added chlorine). The pool side bar provides shade from the midday sun and a meeting place for socialising with other guests over the early evening aperitif!
For children (& energetic adults) we have plenty of activities on offer: table tennis, badminton, boules, croquet,+ a football goal and swings/slide.
Tilleul is ideal for a spring or autumn holiday as it has a very efficient wood burning stove, and is also suitable for a long winter let for those thinking of 'getting away from it all' or indeed, househunting in the area: contact us for our special 'long rental' rates.

Location description
If you prefer to eat out, Le Jardin des Amis is only a short walk from the centre of Meyrals village, with it's boulangerie/epicerie, charcuterie, bar, 2 restaurants, post office, pottery, art galleries and (due to open in winter 2011) butchers shop. The beautiful medieval town of Sarlat is 15k (9miles) away whilst Les Eyzies with its many caves and National museum of prehistory is only 4 miles.
Dramatic rock faces, sparkling rivers, green valleys, Chateaux, medieval villages, prehistoric caves and brilliant sunlight. The Dordogne, has been described by some as paradise.
The region is dominated by pre-history, beautiful architecture and gastronomy. The local markets are full to brimming with some of the best produce France has to offer. Whether you wish to visit the local caves with their drawings dating back 20,000 years, picnic by the banks of the Vezere or Dordogne river, taste the excellent wines from Bergerac, Cahors and surround or canoe ‘Le Jardin des Amis’ is at the very heart of it all.
If you are a food lover, then welcome to gastronomic heaven! Ceps, truffles and Foie Gras are all readily available as are the freshest vegetables, herbs, meat, poultry and game. Simply visit one of the daily local markets to stock up on good things to prepare back in your kitchen. has 2 restaurants only a stroll away, whilst many others can be found in the surrounding area.

Terms and conditions
A 25% deposit is required in order to confirm a booking, with the balance to be paid six weeks before the start of the holiday. Payment can be made by credit card/PayPal or by bank transfer.
A damage deposit of 150€ is required on arrival: this is returned on departure provided that the cottage is left as found.
A local 'Taxe de Sejour' of 0.4€ per adult/child over 14yrs, per night is payable on departure.
