Property description

This gite is the perfect choice for those who wish for peace and tranquillity in beautiful countryside. An excellent place from which to discover the medieval cities and cultural events of Perigord Vert, Haute-Vienne, and Charente Regions. Numerous walks and visits, sporting activities for all levels (horse riding, canoeing, mountain biking and golfing) allowing you to discover the region in a cultural, educational and entertaining way.


La Maison de Rebeyrat (Sleeps 6/7. 3 Bedrooms)


La Maison de Rebeyrat has three floors. The living room is on the ground floor and has a large open fireplace, ceramic tiled floor, satellite TV (English channels) and DVD player. French doors lead to the veranda and enclosed lawn. One of the settees converts into a double sofa bed.
Steps from the living room lead up to a modern, well equipped kitchen with a dining area. The kitchen has an electric cooker, fridge/freezer, toaster, and fitted units. A patio door at the rear opens up to steps to the garden where there is a barbecue area.
The downstairs toilet is tiled, with a hand basin and a shower, and is off the passage that leads to the double bedroom. There is an attractive view of the countryside and the pool from the bedroom.
At the top of the open stairs there is a large room with twin beds and a single bedroom.
These are separated by a passageway that has a room with a toilet and hand basin.
The flooring throughout, except where stated is wooden.


Notes on accommodation
The gite is equipped to a high standard, with everything you would expect to find in your own home. Welcome packs, bed linen and towels will be provided. You may like to provide your own beach towels, as towels must not be taken out of the gite. There is a separate utility room with a washing machine. We can provide a cot, and highchair on request. The English owners, who live onsite, bid you a warm welcome and are happy to help with any questions that occur during your stay. We can provide toys/games, and books from the library. We operate a no smoking policy in the gite. Regretfully no pets are allowed.

Outside
There is an outdoor salt-water swimming pool (10x5m), with roman steps, which is covered and shared by the other gite. The property is situated in 4 acres of private, secluded wood and meadow land and has ideal space for outdoor dining. The property boundary, a stream, is some distance away from the gite.

These gardens are an excellent place from which to watch the wildlife, including deer and foxes, birds of prey, hoopoe, black redstart and woodpeckers. The rear enclosed garden, shared by both gites, has a large brick chimney barbecue. There is a wooden picnic style bench and loungers. Ample parking for gite

Location description

Gite is in St Barthelemy de Bussiere, near Piegut Pluviers, Dordogne, situated in a small rural hamlet in the National Park of Perigord-Limousin, This 3 bedroom gite, recently refurbished to a high standard, sleeps upto 7. There is a pool and 4 acres of secluded woodland and meadow land. Family run restaurant within walking distance. Piegut Pluviers is a 10 min drive, with shops, banks, restaurants, bars etc.


Travel
Low cost airlines fly from UK regional airports including Stansted, Liverpool, Bristol and Edinburgh, to Limoges and Angouleme airports. Both are approx 45 mins drive from Rebeyrat. Angouleme is a 3 hour journey by train (TGV) from Paris. Ferry crossing from Dover to Calais/Boulogne then approx 7 hours 30min (750km) by car. Overnight ferry from Portsmouth to St Malo, which is about 5 hours from Rebeyrat. Because of its rural location, a car is essential for outdoor and cultural activities.

Further details
A mobile baker's van and a mobile grocery van stop in the hamlet twice a week. There is a family run restaurant within easy walking distance, and is well worth a visit. Piegut Pluviers is a 10 minute drive from Rebeyrat and has a supermarket with petrol/diesel, local shops, banks, restaurants, bars, post office, doctor's surgery, and a pharmacy. Piegut which has a bustling market, not to be missed, selling local produce, crafts, etc is held on a Wednesday morning. A heaven for food enthusiasts. There are numerous good restaurants to try in Perigueux, Brantome and Piegut-Pluviers, where you can taste some of the local delicacies such as truffles, foie gras and wild mushrooms.

Saint-Estephe, has a man-made lake 'Grand Etang', There is also horse riding here. 'Circuit du Perigord' has karting, and the Aventure Parc at Lacs de Haute Charente, is a treetop adventure park. There is golf in Perigueux, St-Junien and Limoges.

Brantome is a charming town. It is an island encircled by a loop of the River Dronne, linked to the outside world by five bridges hence it's nickname ‘Venice of the Perigord’. Its superb belfry, studied by Viollet le Duc is the oldest in France with its Dome and Carolingian capitals. You can go canoeing, or take a boat trip around Brantome.

Richard the Lionheart died at Chalus in 1199; many towns in the area are associated with him. Limoges is famous for its porcelain, and near here is the ruined village of Oradour, a stark reminder of the tragedies of World War 2. Nontron is a medieval fortress, of which only the ramparts remain, and is now famous for the manufacture of knives with boxwood handles. Saint Jean de Cole is one of Perigord's most breathtaking villages, and is a choice setting for the shooting of many historical films. It is located 19km to the north-east of Brantome and 7km west of Thiviers in the northern part of the Dordogne department in Perigord Vert. This area is the perfect place to take the family exploring.
