You can explore the 5 acres (2 ha) of terraced gardens, woods and caves or just relax and admire the beautiful views. This is a paradise for children and parents alike with plenty to do on site and many places to visit in the area.
La Roche Chabrelle equally suits couples out of High Season who can enjoy the heated pool, the local fauna and flora (including many native orchids on site) and benefit from our attractive pricing policy. Hibou is very well equipped with fitted kitchen including cooker, fridge, microwave and washing machine. Each gîte has beautiful large beamed sitting/dining rooms. Bed linen and a generous welcome pack are provided.
This is a quote in our visitor's book from a family who stayed recently: Delightful location, attentive & yet unobtrusive hosts and a thorough attention to detail that meant this was the 'easiest' & most stress free gîte holiday ever ... and that's what one goes on holiday for ... And the children got on superbly!!
Cots and High Chairs are available Secure payment by Credit Card is available
On site: There is a troglodyte dwelling and a cave with table tennis, table football and an Internet connection from your own laptop. In the grounds are a badminton court and large football pitch, which are located away from the gîtes. Each gîte comes equipped with a games kit to utilise the facilities on site. Children's fishing in a neighbouring pond gives everyone a chance to catch their first fish.
In the area: canoeing, river beaches, trout and course fishing, mountain biking, golf, walking and riding. Brantôme ‘Venice of Périgord’ is 10 minutes away, Périgueux is 20 minutes, nearest restaurants and shops under 10 minutes away. Activities
Rivers & Lakes
The Dronne is our nearest river. The nearest places to swim are Lisle where there is supervised bathing with a diving board and Renamon where there is a beach and restaurant (with live music often at the weekends). It is also worth a visit to Creyssac (more of a picnic spot with pizza shack and a paddle to cool off!), There is a very good supervised swimming and boating lake at Etang de La Jemaye on the D708 south of Ribérac. There are picnic areas and cafes/restaurants and it is about 40 minutes away.
Canoeing
Canoeing is available in most towns/villages on the Dronne. Just follow the signs by the river. If it is your first family outing and if you have young children then we would suggest a section of river that only has a few weirs and has a duration of about an hour such as from Bourdeilles to Creyssac. You will either leave your car at the start point and arrange a pick up by minibus at the agreed collection point at an agreed time or the minibus will take you to the start point and you canoe back to your car. In Brantôme you can hire canoes to just paddle around the town for an hour. Our favourite canoeing section is from the Moulin just outside Lisle on the Tocane road. They can take you to Creyssac and then it is a lovely 3 hour canoe over 5 relatively easy weirs. You can also stop half way at Remamon for a snack lunch. You need aim to be at the Moulin by 11:30am if you want to do this. They do single canoes and double/triple canoes plus quality safety gear.
Bike Hire
VTT (All terrain bikes – mixed road and track) can be hired from the centre VTT at Montagrier. The costs are about 15 € adult/10 € child per day and the minimum hire is a half day. The cost comes down depending on the number of bikes and the rental period. Normally they will deliver the bikes to La Roche Chabrelle. Their phone number is 05 53 90 13 25 or 06 72 07 86 07 and they speak English. They are situated in a wooden office on the left as you are leaving Montagrier near the church.
Crazy Golf
There is an 18 hole course at St Paul de Lizonne between Verteillac and St Severin.
Golf
There is an 18 hole course at Périgueux and a 9 hole course at Le Manoir de Longeveau at Pillac between St Severin and Aubeterre
