Garrigue is an old stone house which was a farm; it has spacious 7 acre grounds bordered by a stream and a woodland walk.  It is surrounded by varied working farms - cattle, poplars, sunflowers, maize, vines etc.

In the pigeon tower and the barn wing of the house are 4 self-contained gîtes which are each equipped for 6 people and can interconnect if required.  The gîtes may be booked individually or, if all 4 gîtes are booked together, can accommodate a party of up to 26.  With one of the bedrooms and one bathroom downstairs, the gîtes are suitable also for smaller numbers or couples on their own or for those with limited mobility.

Each gîte has 1 double-bedded room and 2 twin-bedded rooms; 1 bathroom with bath, basin and wc, and 1 bathroom with shower, basin and wc; a living/dining-room/kitchenette with wood burner for winter months.   An extra bed and a cot may be available in 2 of the gîtes.  Each gîte’s outdoor area has a wooden table and chairs, large parasol and barbecue.

Equipment includes electric cooker, refrigerator, clothes washing machine, television/radio/video.  Linen and towels are provided for use at Garrigue.  It may be possible to borrow extra equipment from the multi-lingual British owners, Charles and Elizabeth Clarke who live in the east wing (with their cat Ziggy and smallish dogs Pickles and Pepper) who are at hand to help you enjoy your stay.  Maybe you would like to hand-feed biscottes to Françoise, Mireille and Vicky, the pygmy nanny goats – they love that! and hopefully the chickens Cassie, Corrie, Florrie and Mary will oblige with fresh brown eggs.

The 10m x 5m saline swimming pool has roman steps and ample fenced paved and grassy area with loungers, parasols, tables, chairs and hammocks for good weather. . In the games barn are the billiard and ping pong tables, together with kit for: badminton, boules, croquet, etc.  We have 7 acres in which to enjoy walks, picnics, kick a football and the informal 9-hole pitch and putt golf course we have made just for guests at Garrigue !  and we have 6 full size bicycles for you to borrow.

We are usually able to help with e-mails, messages; babysitting; video and book library, maps, brochures for places to visit and things to do. It is usually possible to get in provisions for your arrival if you let us have a list.  WIFI is available.

Location description

The property is 20kms south of the ancient town of Bergerac on the Dordogne river, 6kms north of the medieval bastide town of Eymet which boasts that it has held a market every Thursday since June 1270 and 4kms west of the tiny village of Fonroque on one of the pilgrim routes to Santiago de Compostela.

Local sports include tennis, golf, fishing, canoeing, water parks, riding, biking, hiking, hot-air ballooning, flying club, tree-top adventure parks, karting.  Visit châteaux, abbeys, medieval towns and villages, markets, prehistoric caves, go wine-tasting at local vineyards or maybe just relax with a soothing bottle of the local Bergerac AOC wines in our peaceful surroundings and enjoy the birdsong!

20 minutes from Bergerac Airport, 90 minutes from Bordeaux Airport, 30 minutes from the A89 motorway (Bordeaux eastward, exit 12) 25 minutes from Sainte Foy la Grande (railway station) 2 hours from Brive-la-Gaillarde (car  train), 7 hours from St. Malo.
