Stunning Traditional Perigordian House with Unrivaled Views across the Vezere Valley in the Dordogne,France Available for Holiday Rental.
Property description
Welcome to our house which is situated on a quiet road in the very heart of the wonderful Dordogne. In our opinion the Dordogne is one of the most beautiful parts of France and offers something for everyone.
Our house was, until very recently, our home and we have decided to keep it after our recent relocation to southern Spain. It is a large spacious house with comfortable surroundings with far reaching views along the Vezere valley, open farmland and an amazing view of one of the many local Chateaux rising from the woods.
As we are situated on very high ground (600mtrs), on many early mornings the Vezere produces a ground mist in the valleys that is such a wonderful sight making the Chateau look like it is sitting high above the clouds. And yes, the picture in the logo of Le Jarrissou is the view you get form the entire frontal aspect of the house.
We could easily convert this house to 5 bedrooms and do what everybody else does and cram people in to claim higher rental fees but we like it as it is and believe in quality rather than quantity.
The house is perfect for families wanting a private relaxing holiday with the options of exploring the surrounding countryside and many attractions. The “cote de jour” is walking distance.
The swimming pool is newly built and is 10.5mtrs x 4.5 mtrs with a shallow end for the children and a large Roman step for very small children. The pool is invaluable during the long hot summers! There is a sun terrace and two sets of teak tables and chairs with parasols for shade. One beside the pool the other is beside the house and next to the grape vine. There is also a brick built b-b-q for cooking and dining alfresco during those long hot balmy evenings.
The gardens are large and totally enclosed with electric gates for security of children and pets. The spectacular view is available at nearly all points of the garden including the pool.
We do not live on or near the property and the pool is not shared or overlooked so total privacy!!
At the rear of the property is the entrance which leads into the large garden room that has a dinning table and sofa to shelter from the hot midday sun, and lovely for candle lit meals in the evening. The garden room leads to the entrance hall which then leads onto the downstairs bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, toilet, lounge and stairs to the upstairs suite.
The Kitchen is well fitted with electric oven, gas hob, fridge, microwave and dishwasher. It has plenty of storage space and is fully equipped with everything you may need. It also has the wonderful view from the window.
The master bedroom has French doors which lead out into the garden. The room is fully fitted with a large wardrobe and two sets of chest of draws. Adjoining the master bedroom is a bathroom with a separate WC next door.
The lounge is very large with huge oak beamed ceilings, a pair of crystal chandeliers and a walk in traditional fireplace with a wood burning stove for those winter evenings. It is furnished with two large leather sofas and has a plasma television with access to both UK and French television channels. There are French doors which lead through to the garden room. The lounge also has the wonderful view.
Upstairs there is a large twin bedded room with beamed ceilings with its own separate toilet and a changing/shower room. This room is on the third floor and the windows are set high in the walls making them safe for the children. This room enjoys the best view from the property, overlooking 30 miles of countryside.
In the basement is the garage and a laundry room and a very handy chest freezer.

Location description
Things to do locally and places to visit:
Le Jarrissou, whilst being a perfect ‘rural retreat’, is also the ideal location for great access to all the main attractions in the Dordogne. It is also only a short drive from numerous supermarkets, bars and cafes.
One of the main reasons people visit France is to sample the cuisine. The Dordogne is thought by many to be the cuisine capital of France and has many specialities that are world renowned. Fois gras is probably the most famous and can be bought direct from the many local producers. It is also available to sample in many of the wonderful nearby restaurants and to buy in many of the local shops. Eating out in this area is a real experience and whether you are having a ‘croque monsieur’ for lunch, or a gourmet five-course meal, the food here will delight and inspire you. A trip to the local supermarket to purchase food for a picnic on one of the many nearby riverbanks is also a lovely way to spend a lazy afternoon!
To work off the effects of sampling the local cuisine there are numerous sporting activities to enjoy nearby including: canoeing, cycling, mini-golf and quad biking. Of course there is also the option of lying around the pool with a good book!
The area is also famous for its prehistoric history and caves and there are many caves that can be visited, the most famous being Lascaux due to its incredible cave paintings. La Roque Saint –Christophe is also worth a visit as it is reputed to be one of the biggest and oldest cliff dwellings in the world. In the nearby town of Eyzies there is a prehistoric museum which charts the fascinating history of this amazing area. For the more adventurous there are the caves ‘Gouffre de Proumeyssac’ or as it is also known the ‘Cristal Cathedral ‘ where you can descend underground in a giant balloon basket!
This area is also known for its wonderful chateaux many of which are open to the public. Chateau de Losse and Chateau de Hautefort are two of the best or you can take a cruise from La Roque Gageac and view five chateaux in one go!
Locally there are many beautiful villages and towns to visit. There is nothing better than sitting in a café with a coffee and a croissant watching the world go by. The French also love their markets and they are the place to go to buy local fresh produce. Places that definitely should be on your list to visit are; Montignac , Sarlat, Bramptome, Domme and Perigeaux. Rocamadour is about an hour away by car and is an exquisite town built into the side of a hill and famous for its magnificent church and religious history. For those who like chic French shopping Bordeaux is a fashion paradise!
A one minute drive from the house is a Hamman ‘La Fleur de Vie’ where you can find total relaxation and enjoy a delightful massage.
All in all, we believe that there is something for everyone here and the area will appeal to all ages. Further information on what to do and where to go will be available at the house.
