Property description
Welcome to Chez Marot a country retreat
On arrival you will be welcomed with a bottle of wine and a complimentary pack to get your holiday on its way.
At the front of the gite, there is a small garden and terrace with table and chairs.
Enter into the bright, fully fitted kitchen/diner.
Through the french double doors there is a cosy living room with bed settee, wood burner (wood will be left for you and more available), a collection of books and satellite TV for all Coronation St. addicts.
Down the hall there is a closet w.c., sink and a washing machine.
At the end of the hall is the en-suite (shower, toilet & sink) bedroom leading onto the rear furnished private terrace.
BBQ and loungers.
Please note, there are 2 toilets inside the property but only 1 shower cubicle.
All towels and sheets are included. Please state when booking if you prefer feather or fibre pillows, duvets or blankets.

Location description
Varaignes is situated on the Dordogne/Charente border. There is a magnificent chateau and a superb restaurant.
During the months of July and August there is a village BBQ every Saturday night where you can see what real community is all about.
There are numerous chateaux in the area, which are open to the public in the summer months. This area is famous for its sunflowers, foie gras, forest timber, Bordeaux wines and cognac.
THINGS TO DO
Golf (see *), cycling, bird watching, canoeing, fishing, horse riding, painting, photography, hot air ballooning, go-carting, visits to the of distilleries of Cognac and local wine makers are all here for you, or you can just relax at one of the many lakes with man made beaches set with picnic areas, walks and boats.
*La preze is a spectacular18 hole champion’s golf course with hills, woods and lakes. A unique 18-hole pitch and putting competition course, a driving range and 2 pitch and putting practice greens. FFG. Just 15 min, 14km away.
THINGS TO SEE
Rocamadour: A stunning place with medieval towers, battlements, chapels and shrines built into the rocky hillside.
Caves and rock shelters: Dating back to the last ice age a collection of extraordinary rock paintings and carvings.
Chateaux: Romanesque and Gothic Architecture, Churches and Cathedrals.
Oradour-sur-Glane: A village not touched and kept as a shrine as a remembrance of the day the SS troops massacred the entire population in the closing stages of WW11.
Brantome: A beautiful picturesque town, sometimes called the Venice of the Perigord Vert or little Venice. It has a medieval abbey and an eleventh century belfry (the oldest still standing in France). Many artists come to paint here.
Bourdeilles:
With its gothic bridge, old mill, and medieval chateau. Another painter’s paradise.

Angouleme, 35 mins away, famous for its yearly vintage car race that takes place in mid September.
Perigueux, 1hr away with its beautiful cathedral (the largest in S.W. France) and ancient bustling streets and markets.
Bordeaux, 2hrs away, grand theatres, chateaux, monuments, museums and much more.
