Booking your gite or cottage: some general advice
We recommend you book your Dordogne gite or villa holiday early in the year (or late the year before) to ensure the widest choice.
While it is possibly true that there is over-supply of gites in some parts of the Dordogne (and elsewhere in France), the best value holiday rental properties, and those with the best facilities or in the best locations, tend to get booked early - often by returning visitors who have stayed in the gite in previous years.
Instead of (or as well as!) a summer holiday in the Dordogne region you might like to think also about a spring or autumn break in the region - you probably won't be in the pool, but rental prices are often very attractive, and the region is easy to get to via Bergerac airport. And the countryside is often at its best in these seasons, either with the flowers of spring or the greenery and autumnal changes later in the year.
