Location description

Le Bourg is set in 2 acres of grounds overlooking the beautiful Lizonne Valley, on the edge of the village of St. Paul Lizonne with it's historic frescoed church, part of the Circuit Roman. An ideal base for property hunting, touring, overnight en-route to Spain, or a relaxing holiday.

From Calais and Boulogne: driving time for both routes is around 9 hours and the distance about 500 miles. From Angeloume Airport approx 1 Hour drive, Bordeaux (Merignac Airport) approx 2 hours. Arriving at Bergerac Airport about 1 to 1½ hours. We can arrange Airport pick ups if required.

A French restaurant and English owned Hotel are in the village. Major supermarkets are available in Riberac 10 minutes drive and a 'Spar' supermarket, bakery, pharmacy and post office all available at St Severin 4 minutes drive or a healthy walk.
There are many local attractions including prehistoric caves, chateaux, a mini golf course in the village, a private fishing lake walking, biking and horse riding stables, kyaking and many local festivals and markets.

Nearby are the splendours of Brantome, Aubeterre, Cognac, Bergerac and Perigueux.

Aubeterre - The Sunday morning market in Aubeterre is particularly attractive with an enjoyable atmosphere. Approx 10 mins one of the prettiest villages in France. Amazing monolithic church built into the hillside to hide early Christians from persecution.

Approx 45 minutes Brantome is an island encircled by a loop of the river Dronne, linked to the outside world by five bridges, hence its nickname Venice of the Perigord. Its gabled bell tower, is held to be the oldest and one of the finest in France. Explore the Benedictine Abbey, Troglodyte cave houses and take a boat trip on the river.

Every town and large village has a traditional market specialising in local produce foie gras, cheeses etc particularly Riberac on Friday mornings and Chalais on Monday morning.

Bergerac Approx I hour. Restored gabares – used to float barrels of wine downriver to Bordeaux, now restored for leisurely trips down the river, with wonderful views of the quays and old town. Flower lined avenues. The old quarter stretching out from above the quays through quaint alleys and old squares with many fine stone and half-timbered buildings is a painter’s delight. On market days don’t miss the sumptuous fish stalls. Extensive vineyards and opportunities for wine tasting.

Approx 45 mins Bourdeilles a former barony on the banks of the Dronne, has two castles side by side. Next to the looming feudal fortress is the superb 16th century Renaissance palace, built and sumptuously furnished for Catherine de Medici –who never once deigned to set foot in it. Fortunately the public can enjoy the fine collection of early Spanish, Dutch and Italian furniture and admire the décor in the lady’s bedroom.

St Emilion - South approximately hour. Spectacular hilltop village at the heart of Bordeaux wine country. Wine tasting and sales in the village and at numerous vineyards. Perigueux - Approx 45 mins. The capital of the Dordogne a gracious blend of ancient and modern. Originally two cities, one ecclesiastical and one mercantile. The oldest remains to be seen today are the Gallo-Roman tower, the Tour de Vesone, and the excavations of a village of the same era, in a new museum called Vesunna. The main shopping area is a warren of cobbled alleys lined with boutiques, summer buskers and magnificent Renaissance houses. This pedestrian area with its shady squares and café terraces is a marvellous venue for open air events.
